Insider's Guide

What golfers love

5 PROS

Water in play on much of the course: 14 artificial lakes force careful club selection and punish loose tee shots.

A genuine test from the back tees: 6,831 yards at 2,600 metres of altitude, with a 71.3 rating and 138 slope.

Mature, tree lined parkland: more than 4,000 trees and 50 years of growth give the course shade and definition.

Strong practice setup: a driving range, putting green, and short game area for bunker and approach work.

Full day out beyond golf: tennis, squash, spa, pool, and a restaurant on site.

Things to know

4 CONS

Water and bunkers punish inaccuracy: 61 bunkers and 14 lakes leave little room for a wild round.

Altitude changes distances: at 2,600 metres the ball flies farther, so club selection needs recalibration for visitors from lower ground.

Early closing time: the published 4:00 PM close leaves no room for a slow afternoon round.

Limited tee choice: only three rated tee sets, with the forward set rated for women only.

Local Tips

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ROUND

01

Respect the water

Plan tee shots around the 14 lakes; the safe side of the fairway is usually the scoring side.

02

Adjust for altitude

At 2,600 metres, take less club than at sea level and confirm distances on the range first.

03

Play the back tees only if your game is ready

The Azules set carries a 138 slope; the Blancas set is a fairer test for most visitors.

04

Use the short game area

Warm up in the bunker and approach area before the round, since sand and water feature all day.

05

Start early

With a 4:00 PM close, book a morning tee time to avoid being rushed on the back nine.
