What golfers love

5 PROS

Gary Player design with a true par-72 routing: 4 par 5s, 4 par 3s and 10 par 4s.

Five WHS-rated tee sets from 4,298 to 6,838 yards give every skill level a real test.

Full practice setup: a 300-yard driving range plus a 569-square-meter putting green.

Warm-weather golf near Bogotá, with year-round playable conditions in the Ricaurte valley.

Green-fee tables are published openly on the club's site for low and high season, so visitors can plan before calling.

Things to know

3 CONS

The club's own tee names (Azules 6,838, Blancas 6,289, Rojas 5,164) only partly match the Fedegolf animal-named cards, so confirm with the pro shop which markers to play.

High-season golf is by tee-time reservation only, and the club runs a busy member calendar.

About a two-hour drive southwest of Bogotá, so it is a full-day trip for capital golfers.

Notable Facts

5 FACTS

  • Designed by Gary Player; 18 holes, par 72, with the back Zorro tees measuring 6,838 yards per Fedegolf WHS.

  • Fedegolf rates all five animal-named sets for men and women: Zorro, Iguana, Tortuga, Barranquero and Colibri.

  • Puerto Peñalisa is a member-based recreational club with golf, tennis, nautical and food-and-beverage facilities, all listed on the club's own site.

  • The club's golf page publishes green-fee tables for low and high season, including a student discount and free play for children under 12.

  • The Zorro set's 6,838 yards matches the club's own "Azules 6,838" figure exactly, but its Blancas 6,289 and Rojas 5,164 match no Fedegolf set.

Local Tips

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ROUND

01

Book ahead in high season

High-season tee times are by reservation only, so call the golf office before driving out.

02

Play early to beat the heat

Ricaurte's valley climate runs hot; morning rounds and plenty of water make the day far easier.

03

Confirm your tee markers

Fedegolf's animal-named cards do not map one-to-one to the club's color names, so ask the pro shop which tees to play.

04

Warm up on the range

Use the 300-yard practice range and the 569-square-meter putting green before the first tee; practicing on the course is prohibited unless accompanied by a club professional.

05

Ask about student rates

The club offers a student discount for players under 25 with a university ID, and children under 12 play free.
