About the Course

Club Campestre El Rodeo - Sede La Macarena is an 18-hole, par-72 private country club in Rionegro, Antioquia, about an hour from Medellin in the cooler highlands of eastern Antioquia. Designed by American architect Mark Mahannah and opened in December 1974, the course plays 6,792 yards from the back tees with strategic bunkers, large lakes, and tree-lined fairways at about 2,100 meters of altitude. One of only two courses in Colombia under the same club, alongside the Medellin main course, it is a regular host of Federacion Colombiana de Golf national events. Golfers play with caddies only, no carts, on a tranquil mountain layout with sweeping views of the surrounding hills.

What golfers love

4 PROS

Mountain golf at about 2,100 meters: cooler air, sweeping Andean views, and a tranquil setting 45 minutes from Medellin.

Tournament-tested championship layout: designed by Mark Mahannah, opened 1974, host of the Abierto de Colombia, a European Tour stop, and regular Federacion national events.

Water and strategy on nearly every stretch: large lakes, strategic bunkers, and tree-lined fairways reward placement over power.

Two courses, one club: members get both La Macarena and the Medellin main course, two 18-hole layouts at different altitudes and climates.

Things to know

3 CONS

Private and gated: visitors need a member or a hotel-arranged, confirmed tee time to pass the front gate; no walk-up public play.

No carts: caddies only, so expect a walking round over a hilly, elevation-changing layout.

Fewer amenities than the Medellin sede: a small restaurant, driving range, and patio, but none of the main clubhouse's full facility set.

Local Tips

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ROUND

01

Arrange access before you go

The gate admits members, member guests, and visitors with a hotel-confirmed tee time only.

02

Take a caddie

Take a caddie: carts are not available, and a caddie helps read the elevation changes and water carries.

03

Club selection plays long or short with the altitude and elevation changes

Trust the caddie's yardages over the card on uphill and downhill holes.

04

Allow about an hour from Medellin (club's official site: 1 hour from Medellin, only 20 minutes from Jose Maria Cordova international airport)

The course sits in Rionegro in the Oriente Antioqueno.
